Cross Docking Explained.
“In one door and out the other” is the shortest explanation for Cross Docking. In other words, this logistics procedure takes products from a supplier or a manufacturing plant, then distributes them directly to a customer or to a retail chain with marginal handling and decreased time.
Cross Docking typically takes place in a distribution docking terminal that has minimal storage space. A truck will pull up to one dock door with inbound goods; on the other side across the cross docking terminal will be a second truck to receive the outbound goods. The products are unloaded, screened, sorted, and/or reloaded by transferring them across our dock from one truck to the other by a forklift, a pallet truck, or by hand dollies, identifying where they will be delivered.
